Fiercely Asked Questions
From Fear to Fierce, here’s everything you wanted to ask — and some things you didn’t know you should.
What does a doula actually do?
I’m your birth sidekick, hype woman, and calm-in-the-chaos all rolled into one. I don’t do anything clinical — I support you as the one doing the birthing. I offer physical comfort, emotional support, real talk, and “you’ve totally got this” energy from pregnancy to postpartum.
Is a doula the same as a midwife?
Nope. Midwives handle the medical side of things — like checking your cervix or monitoring the baby. I handle support, advocacy, encouragement, and holding the space so you can focus on birthing your baby your way. We make a great team, but we’ve got different roles.
Do you only support unmedicated births?
Not at all. I support your version of a strong, empowered birth — epidural, unmedicated, VBAC, planned cesarean, induction, hospital, home… it’s not about how you birth, it’s about how you feel doing it. My job is to support your informed choices with zero judgment.
When should I hire a doula?
As soon as you feel that little “maybe I want more support” nudge. Most families reach out during the first or second trimester, but I sometimes take late bookings if I have space. I only take a few clients per month to give you my full energy and presence.
What areas do you serve?
I support families in Manatee and Sarasota Counties — birth center, home birth, or hospital. I also offer virtual services if you’re outside those areas, so you still get all the support (minus me physically passing you a cold washcloth).
What’s included in your doula packages?
Depending on the package: prenatal education, birth prep, advocacy coaching, hands-on labor support, light postpartum care, and placenta encapsulation. Every family starts with a free Birth Clarity Call so we can make sure it’s the right fit.
What’s a “Birth Clarity Call”?
It’s a zero-pressure Zoom or phone call where you can ask questions, share your hopes or concerns, and see how I might support you. It’s part vibe check, part mini birth chat — and totally free.
Do you support VBACs or people with past birth trauma?
Yes, absolutely. This is my heart work. Whether you’re processing a difficult experience or seeking something different this time, I provide steady, nonjudgmental support and information to help you feel safe, seen, and strong.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes! I never want finances to be a barrier. Let’s talk about flexible options that can work for your family.
Can I have a doula if I’m birthing in a hospital?
Yes — and it can make a huge difference. I help you understand your options, ask the right questions, and stay grounded through all the policies and fluorescent lights. My job is to help your voice and preferences stay at the center of your birth experience.
I've had a traumatic birth. Will you understand?
Yes. Many of the clients I serve come to me after experiencing a birth that left them hurt, unheard, or disempowered. While every story is different, my role is to listen, validate, and help you reclaim your confidence.
“Do I really need a doula if my husband will be there?”
Short answer: Yes. Long answer: He’s amazing — but he’s probably not a birth nerd like me.
Your partner brings the love, the snacks, and the hand-holding. I bring the hip squeezes, the know-how, and the “here’s what’s actually happening right now” calm.
We’re not competing — we’re teaming up. I help him help you. (And if he needs a bathroom break or a nap, I’ve got you covered.)
Trust me — partners don’t get sidelined. They get supported too.
